Depth Incremental Progression Guide: Which Milestone Comes Next

Your next milestone is whichever gate is still closed: the tutorial's first upgrades, the Fossil unlock, the boss guarding the way down, or Rebirth. Match your current state to one of the branches below, then use the sections that follow for the details of that step.

A boss is guarding the way down

Make the boss your milestone. The game expects you to defeat the boss guarding a layer before going further.

Keep earning cash in the CASH UPGRADES room until the Fossil gate opens.

The Fossil unlock is open but you have not dug yet

Dig in the DIRT FOSSILS room.

You are ready to Rebirth

Rebirth to grow stronger and dive deeper into the pit.

Steps are how you descend

Buying steps is the constant action rather than a milestone you finish: every step takes you deeper into the pit, and each layer hides something new and dangerous. Falling off the stairs puts you back where you fell, so a slip costs time rather than progress. The real brake is price: steps cost more the deeper you go.

The cash room is your first upgrade milestone

The CASH UPGRADES board shows More Cash, Faster Cash and Walk Speed headings with Buy and Max controls, and a separate green panel is labeled 2x Cash. After you buy a few steps, the tutorial sends you to the Upgrades room: in late October 2026 it cost 250 Cash, and the first purchase afterwards was Faster Cash for 250, which ended the tutorial so upgrades such as More Cash and Walk Speed could be bought.

Fossils: unlock, then dig

Fossils sit behind their own cash gate. In late October 2026 they unlocked once the player had 2,000 Cash, and each fossil cost 250. Once the gate is open, the DIRT FOSSILS room is where you dig: a large fossil skull display, a yellow-bordered digging area you enter holding a shovel, a Dirt Fossils collection board, and an adjacent FOSSIL UPGRADES board listing More Fossils, Faster Digs and Fossil Luck.

The layer boss is the gate to going further

Bosses guard each layer, and the game expects you to defeat the boss guarding a layer before going further. Once you reach a guarded layer, that fight is the next milestone. Clear it and the descent continues. If the fight is the blocker, start with the boss fight tips and the layers guide.

Upgrade trees carry the long run

The game has many different upgrade trees, each offering its own path for improving your character. Luck matters while you dig: with extra Luck active, your chances of finding rare fossils and shiny items rise, and those finds feed into your upgrade trees, so stronger upgrades let you clear layers faster and reach greater depths.

Rebirth when you are ready

Rebirth is the milestone you take when you are ready: it grows your character stronger and lets you dive deeper into the pit. The overall loop is buying steps, digging and Rebirths. If you are still learning the loop, the beginner guide covers the first session.
